As part of my Artists Loft Etsy team  promotional series, I'd like to introduce you to Ellen Brenneman. I am so enamored of her art work, and of her perseverance in the light of  what could have been a depressing experience. She is an inspiration to all of us. Let her tell you herself.

Life Unexpected Leads Artist Back To Her Roots

Many moons ago, I used to be quite the successful artist. I was six years old at the time. Furiously working with lined paper and crayon, I'd sell my wares in front of my makeshift 'store' whenever company came over.

"Grandma," I'd say. " Wouldn't this pretty picture look great on your refrigerator?"
'You're right. It would!" she'd say while handing over a shiny quarter for her newly acquired picture of 'Doggie Asleep on Floor'.

I never really let go of my desire to run my own business. After college, while decorating my walls with paintings, I also ventured into many creative jobs: Mural painter. Illustrator. Furniture Painter. Eventually I fell into private home care and that is where I remained for over a decade.

No One Will Ever Call Me An Artist

I am NO artist. I have an eye for color and composition. It just doesn't translate itself to the paper. I'm glad I can craft, so that I have an outlet for these qualities. They also help with things like arranging pictures on the wall and arranging furniture. I like balance and symmetry. I like movement.Those things attract my attention. But color is always first. The more colors in something, the more I'm attracted to it. My shop logo and my business cards both have a lot of color in them.

I like impressionism, but my husband doesn't share my taste. He likes photos, so much of the work on our walls is photos. I don't mind it too much because they are usually photos of places we've been. I took some photos of some of the artwork on our living room walls. I couldn't help the glare.

Summer Blog Challenge Day 10

Day 10 What famous piece of artwork would I like to own

It has been a long time since I considered any really famous artwork. I've been to some museums to look at art, but not with the eye of owning any. I did buy a little print of an O'Keefe work a year or so ago.

I don't think I'm a Rembrandt kind of gal. Besides, have you seen how enormous some of his paintings are. If I'm going with enormous, I'll take The Thinker by Rodin. Wouldn't he look nice on my porch.

Now, I'm not saying I would turn down a Monet or Pollock, if it were given to me.

I wouldn't mind a van Gogh on my wall either. Maybe there was a time in my life when I thought about these things, but I can't remember. Just give me the money instead so I can buy a horse.
